Sugar Kissed Pecan Mylk

sugar kissed pecan milk 005Once upon a time I was known to make pecan pies and butter tarts and consume way too many of them! I had to stop myself from making them because I didn’t have any self control!

One quick trick I learned was to have a (maybe three) pitted date with a pecan inside and believe it or not, without all the pecan filling and pastry this did the trick!

What does it mean to be grounded?  When was the last time you walked around barefoot outside? Find out in this informative video  that shows how by simply using the earth’s energy you can reduce the inflammation in your body, decrease your chances of heart disease and so much more.

Grounding, sometimes called “Earthing”, is said to help with:

  • Reducing inflammation and chronic pain

  • Lowering stress

  • Improving mental clarity

Well, emerging science reveals that direct contact with the ground can have some pretty significant health benefits.

This might sound like something straight out of fringe science, but think about it… your body is actually an electrical being.  That’s why AED’s work when someone’s heart stops beating.

Our daily exposure to pollutants and modern technology such as Wi-Fi, electromagnetic waves and mobile phones can add high amounts of positive electrons (called free radicals) to build up in our bodies.

It’s believed that direct contact with the ground helps bring us back to a “neutral state” because the earth has a negative grounding charge.

Negative ions from the earth’s surface rush into our bodies to discharge the unpaired positive ions we’ve picked up.

I actually met and chatted at length with Clint Ober (very passionate about health) a few years ago at The Longevity Conference in California that is shown in this movie to my surprise.  I have also read his incredible book, Earthing – The most important health discover ever?  While we were at the conference we were all grounded which keeps you more awake and alert.  Since then, I have added grounding mats to our computers, sheets to our beds and also a grounding pad.

My grounding sheets are in rotation with my other sheets so not on my bed all the time and this is when I will use the grounding bed pad.  Funny enough, I had gotten out of the habit of putting it on and while watching this video in bed, I was inspired to get up and put it on!  See, we all need reminders!  With the summer behind us and the days of frolicking about in our bare feet and connecting with the earth’s frequency, it is important to stay grounded throughout the winter. That is unless you live in a sunny climate or have the opportunity for a hot sunny vacation.

You can purchase grounding mats, patches, bed pads, shoes and outlet checkers, plus the Earthing book from Upayanaturals website – click the Housing and Grounding Products tab located on the left side of the screen.  Or you can hug a tree with yours arms (exposed skin), spend some time each day connected to the earth until the snow flies or cozy up in bed with your grounding mats or sheets!

Many classes are offered at Move Your Body Studio with various elements from Yoga, Pilates, Mindfulness, Flexibility, HIIT, and the list goes on…I must admit that I am “all over the health map” with exercise/fitness. I can’t do just one thing and our minds and bodies were not set up that way either. I like be open to many different teachings and it has helped many of my clients and class participants look at their life in more “open” way.

Lately in the Core Conditioning Class we have been adding in elements of the Chakras and how they apply to our daily living and the movements during class.  Whether you make it to class or can apply these principles in your day….enjoy!

Recap: What is a Chakra?

  • Life is energy and the chakras are about energy
  • The chakras are the storehouses and transmitters of the universal energy, and each chakra represents distinct frequencies within the universe
  • The chakras are spinning vortexes of subtle energy located along the spine from the base to the crown. Each of these seven main chakras offers a different perspective on life or any given situation.
    • Imagine the chakras as seven floors in a building. When you are on the bottom floor your view is significantly different then if you were looking out the window on the 7th floor. With each successive elevation, your view becomes successively more expansive.  If the window is clean and clear, your view will be clear, however, beliefs can cloud the windows and either distort your view or challenge you to change them. If you want to get a clearer view then you need to be ready to challenge your existing beliefs to clean them. As you consider each chakra, reflect on how each one manifests in your life.

First Chakra – Survival

  • Primary drive is survival – trust no one
  • To understand first chakra pay close attention to your animal nature and what it takes to stay vital – what type of environment and habitat most stimulates your being? Are you able to live in it – mountains/city/country? If not, how can you bring it into your home/space (flowers, favourite park)
  • This chakra is where the first test in consciousness occurs
  • Balanced – you are in the environment that your physical being thrives in
  • Unbalanced – feelings of insecurity, fear of insufficiency, victim of life

First Chakra Exercises and Meditation

Meditation – Grounding meditations using the Root Chakra Kundalini Essential Oil from Living Libations

Sitting comfortably, with your eyes softly closed, imagine a grounding cord that runs from your spine deep into the earth. Imagine in your minds’ eye any excessive mental energy running down your spine and dissipating through the grounding cord into the earth. Imagine the grounding cord growing roots, like giant trees. Picture the roots of your grounding cord intermingling with the roots of the giant trees. Now imagine that you can draw energy up from the earth through your grounding cord. Picture the same centered strength of the trees being accessible to you, too.

  • Visualize the colour red and feel it’s power and vitality coursing through you – wear it and seek it out
