nut bag 2Two great recipes for homemade almond milk……….

Today, you can find many alternatives for animal milk, yogurt, and other dairy products in the supermarkets.  The number of people drinking and using them is rising, so there are a lot more options out there than there used to be!

Regular milk has a lot of potential negative effects on your body- including leeching calcium from your bones (yes- this is true!), causing inflammation in your body, and causing digestive problems because 75% of the world’s population is genetically unable to digest milk! Continue reading »

french toast (6)French Goodness Toast

I like to send my kids off with a healthy breakfast and one of them is French Toast….with my secret ingredients.

One of my secret ingredients is Hydrolyzed Collagen.

  • Supports skin, hair and nail growth
  • Good for joints and can help joint recovery
  • Can improve digestion since it naturally binds to water and helps food move more easily though the digestive track
  • Source of protein (though not a spectacular one) but its specific amino acids can help build muscle.
  • All of the amino acids collectively are beneficial to cell reproduction

And for the Mama’s and Papa’s out there:

  • Great source of dietary collagen (side note: collagen is too large to be absorbed by the skin, so those skin creams are pretty useless… get it internally and use coconut oil for lotion!)
  • Can help tighten loose skin
  • Rumored to help with cellulite

Good Ol’ Fashioned Healing Bone Broth

Remember Grandma’s chicken soup? It was said to heal you from colds and whatever ailed you. It was made by following the recipe below which produces a gelatin rich bone broth. We also used to eat every part of the animal which created an amino acid (the building blocks of protein) balance in our bodies. However, today we typically turn our noses up at eating organs and other tissues. My mummy served us liver once a month (at least that’s what it felt like, but I can say that I have not carried on this habit after leaving home).

I have however, carried on the tradition of making my own broth – it’s just a habit you add to the end of your feast.

Save your carcasses for nourishing bone broth that is so super simple to make. If you don’t have time to make it in the moment- then freeze all the bones for later. Continue reading »

Busy Mama Detox Tip – Detox Bath

While dry brushing, pour yourself a hot water bath with one-two cups of Epsom salts (or more) and ½- 2 cups of non-aluminum baking soda.

Soak for 20-40 minutes with lights dimmed, perhaps a candle for added relaxation and soft music to drown out any “mama calling from your kids or husband”

For an added cleansing effect, drink a cup of peppermint tea before the bath to promote the release of toxins or even add it to your bath along with soothing essential oils like lavender or chamomile.

Why Epsom Salts & Baking Soda? Continue reading »

Almond Turmeric Latte…..Amazingly delicious and nutritious

This SUPER spice will kick your fat burning filter into high gear.

Turmeric acts an all-natural anti-inflammatory agent and can assist your liver’s enzymes in flushing out carcinogens from your body which is key for optimal health and efficient fat loss. The liver acts as a natural detoxifier – it is your body’s fat burning filter.

It is the liver’s responsibility to eliminate all the toxins from your body. If your liver is functioning poorly, besides draining your energy, it makes it more difficult to release any unwanted body fat.

Slim and Trim Tip – Scales

Do you weigh yourself daily, hourly, weekly, monthly, never? Does the number on the scale influence your mood?  I have seen clients get very upset when they have gained two pounds or through the roof excited when they have lost 5lbs.

Personally, I don’t have a problem with you checking your weight every few months but you must know that it doesn’t always give you a clear picture of what’s really happening.

A scale doesn’t measure the weight of your memories or your daily stress, the smiles you display and the lives that you touch, the hours that you sleep, the level of your hormones, the brightness of your future…it just measures your physical mass when you step upon the scale. And for all these reasons and many more, we don’t need a scale ……- Tanya Willis

If you do step on a scale, have a look at these factors presented by Richard Talens of www.greatist.com that can affect the variations in your weight… Continue reading »
