Ab work is the number one request I get in my classes. But remember, there is no such thing as spot reduction, so if you want the washboard abs your diet needs to reflect this desire and you also need to add cardio and weights to your routine. I’ve had washboard abs for months at a time throughout the years but not consistently…I’m being honest. Sure, I have incredibly toned abs & I’m strong but as soon as I let up on the eating and letting life take over, they disappear underneath some fat. I don’t have any genetic predisposition to a 6-pack so it’s related to my desire, my eating and exercise habits that I choose at that time.

Every day we are plugged in: constantly looking at our smartphones, staring at computer screens and ending the day in front of our TVs.

And it’s hard to disconnect, but sometimes it is necessary. We don’t see it, but electronics create electromagnetic waves not natural to the body. Over an extended period of time, these waves can affect us.

Tristan Truscott, sensei and founder of the Austin Martial Arts Academy and the Satori Method Academy, says technology is amazing, but using tech responsibly is equally important.

“It’s the electromagnetic pollution in the power lines, the microwaves, the Bluetooths, the cellphones, the towers,” Truscott says. “All of that, it’s constantly bombarding your electromagnetic circuitry. This may be what’s getting you disrupted.”

Taco Salad

This is one of my kid’s favourite meals. They get a ton of greens, a great source of protein and some healthy fats.  I usually make about triple this recipe and freeze it. This is definitely a quick and easy dinner meal and they also like taking it for lunch.

 

Taco seasoning

2 tbsp chili powder

1 tbsp oregano, dried

½ tsp paprika

1 ½ tsp ground cumin

½ tsp salt and pepper

pinch cayenne

(mix the above ingredients together and will keep in air tight container for 3 months. Can double/triple the recipe so that you have some ready for next time)

Revive your Resolutions….act like its January 1st again.

 

I’m not one for making New Year’s Resolutions but I do like to keep improving my habits. Since our habits reflect what we do in a day….remember we are all just habits strung together. I want to make sure my habits are in line with my goals of living a healthy life, being strong & independent, keeping my mind sharp, having fun, and being calm and centered.

 

We get caught up in dates (like January 1st) sometimes and we go full throttle and make too many changes, too quickly. Unfortunately, we also have an “all or nothing” attitude, so after we have exhausted our will power trying to maintain all of the things we want to do, we tend to let things fall by the wayside.   • Apply equal pressure when squeezing the ball with both legs
  • Focus on squeezing the ball from the inner thigh not at your knees
  • Pull your heels toward you without moving them. This fires up the hamstrings! FEEL IT??
  • Press your arms into the floor for extra triceps and back work
  • Wrap your tailbone between your legs
  • Lengthen your chin into your chest
  • Focus on your glutes and feel them working
