I was chatting with some girlfriends about the trials and tribulations of having a teenager under my roof and another one on the way. She came upon this blog and kindly shared it with me. Not everything is a fight and it’s not about hate but I found this letter calmed me down…it reminded me how important it is that my children are carving their own way in this world and that can be scary, exciting, and frustrating for both the parents and the child. It made me realize that what I am doing is right..I’m holding the rope even when there are times I want to let it go…not really, but almost. Sometimes it’s hard to hold the rope, it’s a lot of effort but well worth it.  I also remember that I was a teenager and it was my job to test the waters and find my path…and I know the road was rocky but we all got through it.

Enjoy this letter and I’d love to hear any of your comments.

Breathe, savour, release, relax, let go,

Dear Parent:

This is the letter that I wish I could write.

This fight we are in right now. I need it. I need this fight. I can’t tell you this because I don’t have the Continue reading »

My mum had her gallbladder out in the late 70’s, my sister had hers taken out in 2014 after a year of cleaning up her diet and lifestyle. About 750,000 people have it removed every year and whatever you choose to do is your choice. However, your gallbladder is not insignificant. While you can survive without it, once it is removed, your body must work harder to digest fats and remove cholesterol from your body.

Recently a client of mine was having gallbladder issues and a holistic practitioner recommended Chanca Piedra, which is a well known plant from the Amazon Rainforest. It supports your bladder, kidneys, gallbladder and liver health. It’s thought to promote the liver’s normal function by aiding in the detoxification process.

Your lifestyle choices, your sleep, your diet and stress level have the ability to turn “on” or “off” your genes which can point you in the direction of health or disease.

This exciting new field is called Epigenetics – simply meaning that you can influence your genes by what you put in your mouth and how you think (very simplified)

Researchers at the Stanford Prevention Research Center found that of the trillions of dollars spent on health care annually; at least 50% goes towards chronic disease that is totally preventable or even reversible with lifestyle changes.

Are you EMPOWERED by this knowledge???

Yes? No? Hey, I know, you just want looser fitting pants and the scale moving south…I want those things for you too, but I also want you to feel fantastic, to have energy to spare, to feel empowered so that you can choose where you want to be.

Every cell replaces itself with a new cell…your body builds a new: Continue reading »

image00510 Breakfast Choices that don’t come from a box

Establishing a healthy morning routine sets the tone for the whole day .

Every morning you get a NEW start…yippee! While sleeping your body has been busy cleaning up what you did to it the previous day…how great is that?

There are some that say, “Eat breakfast as soon as you get up” and others that say, “Wait until you are hungry.” I used to insist my kids eat soon after they got up, but sometimes they weren’t hungry. After much research I decided that if they aren’t hungry why am I insisting that they eat. Isn’t better to honour our bodies and eat when we are truly hungry?

So, when you are ready to start your day…here are some breakfast ideas that can nourish you and your kids. Continue reading »
