Love your Ta Ta’s aka…breasts

I was reading the book, How Not to Die by Micheal Greger, M.D. and with Valentine’s Day approaching (I know it’s about the heart and love…but your breasts are very close to your heart!!) I thought I’d share some neat tidbits….

Specifically Michael Greger is discussing how to avoid getting breast cancer. Unfortunately each year about 230,000 American women are diagnosed and 40,000 die from it. But, there are things you can do NOW. Cancer doesn’t grow over night, it takes years, sometimes decades, to form.

“People who are doing the right thing by improving their lifestyles in hopes of preventing cancer may in fact be successfully treating it as well. Don’t wait until you are diagnosed to change your lifestyle, start NOW, it is NEVER too late.”

Darwin said, it’s the survival of the fittest and when it comes to exercise…get fit. Sometimes we get caught up on how much we weigh but it’s deeper than that. Movement offers you a preventative measure against breast cancer (and more) because it tends to lower you circulating estrogen levels. Five hours a week of vigorous exercise can lower estrogen and progesterone exposure by about 20%.

Get Your Greens:

By adding cruciferous (broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, kale, etc.) veggies into your daily diet you can significantly reduce your risk of breast cancer. For example, broccoli boosts the activity of detoxifying enzymes in your liver, therefore if you are eating a steak off the BBQ, having a side of broccoli will reduce your carcinogenic load.

Flaxseeds:

These are powerful little seeds that are one of the richest sources of omega 3 fatty acids, but even more exciting is their lignan content. Lignans are phytoestrogens that can dampen the effects of the body’s own estrogen. Tossing a tablespoon into your morning smoothie will help to reduce your risk of having breast cancer.

Massage Your Breasts:

The waxing moon and full moon are times when things are birthing and coming to fruition while the waning moon is a releasing moon.

Prepare yourself for Sunday January 24- this is the day your body really absorbs what you put it in ….real living food or dead processed food…choose wisely today!

What will you do on Sunday to assist the detoxing of your cells?

  • Start the day with water, detox lemonade, herbal tea, green juice drink, detox broth
  • Have homemade juices/detox broth throughout the day or very light meals
  • Dry Brush before your shower or upon rising

 

The skin is responsible for eliminating 1/3 of the body’s waste everyday – that can equal up to one pound!!! A super fast and effective way it to add dry brushing to your shower/bath routine.

logo123When it comes to Dry Brushing, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Living Libations. I use their dry brushes and lymph+ tonic as part of my routine before jumping in the shower or bath. Recently I have started to also dry brush upon rising – it just feels so good!

Detox Bath

While dry brushing, pour yourself a hot water bath with one-two cups of Epsom salts (or more) and ½- 2 cups of non-aluminum baking soda.

Soak for 20-40 minutes with lights dimmed, perhaps a candle for added relaxation and soft music to drown out any “mama calling from your kids or husband”

For an added cleansing effect, drink a cup of peppermint tea before the bath to promote the release of toxins or even add it to your bath along with soothing essential oils like lavender or chamomile.

Why Epsom Salts & Baking Soda?

  • Safe, natural, non-toxic traditional remedies used to improve well-being
  • Believed to cleanse and purify the body

  • Epsom salts provide the body with much needed magnesium and sulfates

FYI on sulfates….they disinfect your blood and flush toxins O-U-T of your cells. They are also necessary for the synthesis of new collagen…you got it…gives you healthier, younger looking MAMA skin!!!

Other detox bath ideas that you can explore….

  • Austrian Moor Mud – nature’s most potent healing compounds
  • Himalayan Salt
  • Organic Seaweed – help delay aging process
  • Add ginger or ginger tea to further sweat those toxins out (can add to Epsom/baking soda)
  • Add fresh herbs – mint warms you, lavender and chamomile soothe you, explore and find what suits your mood
  • Bentonite clay – fast detox method
  • Raw Apple Cider Vinegar – super helpful when you need to restore the acid/alkaline balance back to your body

Madeleine Marentette from Grail Springs in Bancroft (great place) has written a book, Grail Springs Holistic Detox for Body, Mind and Spirit, and I love her advice about detoxing with the cycle of the moon.

If you can manage to follow this you may deepen your detox even more, here is what she writes in her book…The rhythm of a new moon supports weight loss and detoxification.

Google the moon cycles and then add the dates into your day timer and see if you can follow her advice.  If not, any time you can have a detox bath, jump in!

According to Sarah Best’s article, “How to Get the Most out of your Detox”, a complete circuit from one full moon to the next takes a month and is divided into two roughly 14-day phases: waxing moon and waning moon, the latter being the best time for detoxing. If this sounds bizarre to you, consider that the gravitational pull of the moon governs the tides of the planet’s oceans and has done since the beginning of time. When we remember this, it is not such a leap to accept that this same force exerts a powerful influence on the flow of fluids into and out of our cells.

In the words of Johanna Paungger and Thomas Poppe in their book Moon Time: “The waning moon detoxifies and washes out, sweats out and breathes out, dries, consolidates, prompts to action and the expenditure of energy.” During the waxing moon, conversely, the body is better at taking in than it is at letting go. Whenever you have any choice in the matter – i.e. unless a health crisis means you must start immediately – always schedule your longer detoxes to happen when the moon is waning. Imagine the chakras as seven floors in a building. When you are on the bottom floor your view is significantly different then if you were looking out the window on the 7th floor. With each successive elevation, your view becomes successively more expansive.  If the window is clean and clear, your view will be clear, however, beliefs can cloud the windows and either distort your view or challenge you to change them. If you want to get a clearer view then you need to be ready to challenge your existing beliefs to clean them. As you consider each chakra, you will reflect on how each one manifests in your life.

It matters what you put in your mouth and on your skin.

From the foods we eat, to the air we breathe, to the stress we feel, we are introducing pathogens and particles, making and breaking cells, mobilizing and stimulating various actions, all day and night.

Fact: We make waste. And if your internal organs can’t keep up with all the cleaning that’s needed, it’s going to push through your skin!

I had the pleasure of chatting with Amandha Vollmer, BSc, ND, Holistic Health Practioner, the other day and we were discussing skin health……

“I often see people with eczema come to me for assistance. Each time, there is an over-burdened liver and the skin is being used to excrete waste. The waste then sits upon the skin, aggravating it and leading to a rash.

The worst cases I see are those who then were prescribed cortisone topical creams. This temporarily can make the rash lessen, however it not only suppresses the action of the liver, which is trying desperately to get toxins out of the body, but it adds a further toxic load to the liver for processing. It also depresses the immune system leading to a whole other ‘hot mess’.

So no wonder the rash always comes back with a vengeance! Often a stronger cortisone is prescribed and if the suppression continues the body has no choice but to put the overload in the lungs, leading to weakness, wheezing and many times asthma, especially in children. In adults, this action generally leads to the common ‘arthritis’, as the toxins are stored in the only ‘safe’ place the body can put it, the joints (after, of course the lymph system is full).”
