I’m at home right now, enjoying family time with Glen and the kids, I mean teenagers. Where did all those years go?
I know this is the time when we start thinking about what we want to achieve for the year ahead, and revisit our goals and aspirations.
I like to set goals for my personal life and my business, and even though I generally do this on a regular basis, I get excited about what feels like a fresh start in January. It just feels like a clean slate, don’t you think?
Last year I had too many goals and as I result I was pulled in too many directions. I felt like I didn’t achieve what I set out to achieve.
So, I read about setting goals and loved the idea about choosing one word for your goal and that would be the theme of the year. This keeps you focused, grounded and on track.
So, that is what I have done for 2017.
While this word may not seem grandiose or earth shattering, it is exactly what I need right now.
The word is “Simplicity.”
My big-picture goal for 2017 is to simplify my life. And I have posted this word in my office as a daily reminder. Actually I think I was preparing myself during 2016 as I continued to de-clutter on all levels.
This one word will help me make the decisions that are right for me (not saying ‘yes’ to every opportunity that comes my way) – being more intentional and selective with how I am spending my time. This is not to say that I won’t get sucked into a black hole on Facebook from time to time, but this ONE word will be a tremendous help to keep me on track and FOCUSED. I found that last year I was side tracked about the next great thing and therefore was pulled off track. We are bombarded with messages all the time and it’s easy to be pulled away from what we want. But we must know what we really WANT.
What will your word for 2017 be?
So, while choosing a word (or two) for the year may seem silly or insignificant, when it’s used the right way, it can yield unbelievable results. Sometimes, deciding on your word for the year will help you put your goals into motion, and then push you to do more.
