Why Your Waist Circumference Matters 100x More Than What You Weigh

It can be too easy to think (or worry) about your weight.

But you know what?  There is something else that may be more important when it comes to real health.  That is your waist circumference.

Ahh, just a minute!  It’s not just about the “pinchable” fat under the skin (you know, that “muffin top”), it’s about the internal fat around your abdominal organs that can be the real issue.

That internal fat (AKA “visceral fat”) is known to release a bunch of hormones and inflammatory compounds that can mess with your blood sugar, blood fats (i.e triglycerides), and blood pressure.

In today’s post I’ll describe how to measure your waist circumference and then give you a bunch of actionable tips to help you reduce it.  And (of course) there’s a super-nutritious recipe at the end. Continue reading »

skinny choc shakeSkinny Chocolate Shake

So we are the typical family that loves a good burger, fries and milkshake.

And this is a super fun family meal to make together.

When I can, I love to upgrade our meals to be just a bit healthier. Such as buying grass fed beef, or local. Making our own fries from local potatoes and using coconut oil in the oven.

And lastly adding a yummy milkshake to wash it all down!

My kids love this. It’s a great step up from having a traditional milkshake. This one is loaded with nutritional goodness and you can add more ice and less liquid to make it thicker. Continue reading »

Cucumber Dill Salad

Cucumber Dill SaladThis is a POTLUCK FAV!!!  This is requested every time I go to a Potluck. The dill gives it the most amazing taste and the dressing is so tasty and pure that your taste buds will be dancing for JOY!

Before we dive deeper into making this…

We all want to be healthy and feel more amazing, right?

The truth is, it can be confusing to know where to begin.   When we feel overwhelmed, it’s easy to give up even before we’ve started.  I know how it goes because I’ve been there before too!

The top 3 goals I hear most often from my clients are:

  • feeling better
  • losing weight
  • having more energy

If you felt better, had more energy and reached your ideal weight, you would probably feel like a new version of yourself, right?

homemade cashew yogurtI always get asked if I have dairy in my diet.

As I’ve said before I call myself a “flexitarian” because it suits my personality. If I say I’m not going to eat “something”, then I tend to gravitate towards it, this way if I keep everything available to me it doesn’t have the same emotional pull – if you know what I mean. You may not have this personality type – we are all different.

I know that I have never enjoyed drinking a glass of milk (ask my mum), but somehow chocolate milk was fine. I only ever put a bit of milk on my cereal but I haven’t had a bowl of cereal in about 7 years. Continue reading »
