Love Your Gallbladder

My mum had her gallbladder out in the late 70’s, my sister had hers taken out in 2014 after a year of cleaning up her diet and lifestyle. About 750,000 people have it removed every year and whatever you choose to do is your choice. However, your gallbladder is not insignificant. While you can survive without it, once it is removed, your body must work harder to digest fats and remove cholesterol from your body.

Recently a client of mine was having gallbladder issues and a holistic practitioner recommended Chanca Piedra, which is a well known plant from the Amazon Rainforest. It supports your bladder, kidneys, gallbladder and liver health. It’s thought to promote the liver’s normal function by aiding in the detoxification process.

I love this drink when I want to feel refreshed and nourished. Cucumbers contain silica which is known as the “beauty mineral”. So if you’d like to strengthen your connective tissues (tighter younger looking skin, stronger nails) of the skin, hair and nails, then this is your drink!!!

Raw carrot juice is delicious and alkalizing for your body. Carrots are loaded with live enzymes, and carotenes that fight cancer, improve eyesight, and cleanse toxins from the liver. Excellent source of vitamins A, C, E and K and most of the B vitamins for a bonus! Carrots are rich in the alkaline-forming mineral calcium, which helps to strengthen your bones and teeth.

Carrot Juice  – Plain and Simple You can make yourself a plain carrot juice by putting some carrots through your juicer or spruce it up with some apples, lemons and ginger (my favourite). Explore your taste buds and treat them to deliciously fresh made juices.

Or try this recipe from Reboot with Joe.

Thirsty Thursday – Get your Vitamin C Booster Smoothie

Does this ever happen to you…. I sat down to type this blog and then I got sidetracked!!!

How did I get side tracked? My “busy mama” day unfolded like this….From clients, to classes, to tapping sessions, to picking up dog food, getting mail, going to the bank, making meatballs, getting dinner ready, looking at the empty granola jar knowing that I need to make more, to trying this smoothie so that I could taste test it first before I posted it – and it’s a good one, to dog walking, picking up a kid and going to the dentist, then hockey….and now…a week later….sitting here preparing this blog so that you can enjoy this fabulous smoothie packed with a punch of Goodness and loaded with Vitamin C. Almond Turmeric Latte…..Amazingly delicious and nutritious

This SUPER spice will kick your fat burning filter into high gear.

Turmeric acts an all-natural anti-inflammatory agent and can assist your liver’s enzymes in flushing out carcinogens from your body which is key for optimal health and efficient fat loss. The liver acts as a natural detoxifier – it is your body’s fat burning filter.

It is the liver’s responsibility to eliminate all the toxins from your body. If your liver is functioning poorly, besides draining your energy, it makes it more difficult to release any unwanted body fat.

New Year Detox Part One- Eating and Moving

new year_Healthy

It’s a new year and for many that means a renewed focus and interest in self-improvement, including detoxing from the recent holidays.  While wanting to be in good health year round is your priority…we all need a reminder and a tune up from time to time and the New Year is a great reminder to detox our cells and improve our health…because as you know – without good health, we are nothing.

So, all year long, we move our bodies at Move Your Body Studio in Bobcaygeon and 3 times per year, the Busy Mama Detox, which is an online detox program available world-wide is offered.  This 12 week program breaks down your day into small parts and offers you strategies to detox that little area…until your whole day is cleaned up.  Small changes…BIG rewards. Check out www.busymamadetox.com for more info!!

Here are a few strategies for your short and long term health…

Go GREEN….your cells love green. What can you add to each meal throughout your day that is GREEN? Keep it small, add it slowly and soon enough it will be routine.

Breakfast – I love making green juices or smoothies.  Here are a few I enjoy.

Elvis Parsley Get Your Groove On

Lettuce Enjoy this Smoothie

Purple Nut Smoothie

Also, it’s easy to slide a piece of celery, plain or with nut butter, beside your morning breakfast (and your kids). Top a poached egg onto some lightly steamed or raw spinach.

Lunch – Sometimes I’ll have another green smoothie, a kale salad or whip up a concoction like this:

Two Minute Green Salad:

1 cup thinly sliced kale (squeeze a ½ lemon over it with some salt and pepper and let it soften up while cutting up the rest of the ingredients)

½ cup thinly sliced cabbage

Handful of raisins

A carrot peeled into ribbons

Handful of sprouts (optional but super nutritious)

A handful of walnuts

A Drop of MTC oil or olive oil

Mix all together…delicious…be adventurous..throw in some hemp seeds, maybe some cranberries, onions – whatever you have on hand.

Dinner – toss together a beautiful salad, steam some veggies, crunch into some edamame…endless green options!!!

2 great salads & quick dressing

Cabbage (coleslaw) salad

Kale Waldorf Salad

Take the Grocery Cart Detox Part One  and Grocery Cart Detox Part Two

The old adage of “you are what you eat” is both simple and true.

Move Your Body– There are no negatives to simply moving your body.  Get up and get active.  Depending on your goals – find what suits them! Here are but just a few routines to get you going…there are lots more at www.tanyamorrison.ca

Lettuce Enjoy This Smoothie and the Amazing Benefits of Lettuce!

Looking for something other than chomping on a salad today??  Try this Smoothie for a change.

lettuce guinapea eating it

Lettuce has been called “the perfect weight loss food” but it is so much more. With amazing healing benefits and calories comprised of 20 percent protein, it could be called “gorilla food” instead!

Should you put Romaine or Iceberg lettuce in your Smoothie??? You decide:

Romaine vs. Iceberg Lettuce

Romaine has:
Less sugars and sodium                  Twice the protein
Twice the calcium                            Three times the vitamin K
Four times the iron                          Eight times the vitamin C
Seventeen times the vitamin A

The general rule is: Choose red, green and dark colored foods over whites. Red and green leaf lettuce is more nutritional than iceberg.

A few health benefits:

1. Low Calorie Content and Weight Loss Superstar

Lettuce has only 12 calories for one shredded cup. Making it a weight loss superstar!
2. Improves your Digestion

Lettuce contains fiber and cellulose. Besides filling you up, fiber improves your digestion. Improving your digestion may not sound like a good thing for losing weight, but it is actually essential for long term weight control.

3. Omega-3 Fatty acids.

Romaine lettuce has a two to one ratio of omega-3 to omega-6. That’s a great ratio.
The fat content in lettuce is not significant UNLESS you eat a lot–but we actually suggest you do!

4. Complete Protein

Romaine lettuce’s calories are 20 percent protein. Like all whole foods, much of this protein is complete, but the amount can be increased by combining with balancing proteins.

5. Helps with Insomnia

The white fluid that you see when you break or cut lettuce leaves is called lactucarium.

This has relaxing and sleep inducing properties similar to opium but without the strong side effects. Simply eat a few leaves or drink some lettuce juice.

6. Lettuce is Great for Detoxing

The minerals in lettuce help remove toxins and keep your acid/alkaline balance in order. Once you are balanced on this level there are a host of benefits including greater energy, clearer thinking, deep restful sleep, and youthful skin.

7. Low Glycemic Index

Lettuce has an average glycemic index of 15, but because it has so few calories, its glycemic load is considered zero. Foods with low glycemic indexes are great for anyone watching their blood sugars for medical reasons, or for weight management.

8. Whole Life Food

Lettuce is almost always eaten raw, providing us with many micronutrients not found in cooked or processed food. Eating raw food also adds vital energies not recognized by nutritional science.

Large food corporations have not found a way to package lettuce long term or stick it in cans or boxes. Let’s hope they never do!

In fact, lettuce is one of the few foods which can be found organic and prewashed already in bins for you to eat immediately.

Ready for your Smoothie!!!!  Use organic ingredients and enjoy!

1 small head of romaine      ¾ cup blueberries    ½ cup mango                     ½ raspberries or cherries                1 cup water

1 small head of romaine      ¾ cup blueberries    1 frozen banana                   1 tbsp vitamineral greens                1 cup water                5 ice cubes           1 tbsp flax seed
