I’ve been good all day.
I’ve worked hard.
I’ve had a long day.
I’ve had to deal with people and their complaints all day.
I deserve a treat.
I hear this excuse ALL THE TIME and I used to use it too.
First of all, why does food = treat?
And it’s usually food that isn’t the healthiest of choices.
What’s needed here is changing the definition of what a treat is.
Yes, we all deserve to be loved and cared for, but perhaps having a bath, snuggling up with a good book, spending time in nature, or cuddling our pets, children or hubby are better alternatives.
It will take more effort to change this connection because we have ingrained this behavior into our habits, but it is worth keeping in our conscious awareness.
Notice when you are connecting eating food to deserving it. Breath and become aware of what you are really CRAVING.
Is it love?
Until we stop and breathe, connect to the moment, the habit will not change.
Perhaps, like me, you wanted love.
But it was painful for me to open up and receive love because I had subconsciously tied love to rejection when my parents separated. (Didn’t realize that then)
This was an extremely painful time in my teenage life and as much as I just wanted to be held, loved, to feel safe & secure I couldn’t allow this to happen because I felt I would be rejected and hurt again so I started to eat…..
….and that’s when it all happened
Food= love, security
