Getting off the Sugar
This is one of the most frequently asked questions I am asked. How can I stop eating sugar?
Many people think because they are not eating “candy” that they are not eating sugar. That’s not TRUE. Sugar lurks everywhere and we are eating & drinking way too much of it.
Besides the obvious – sugar and anything ending in “ose” or artificial sweeteners or anything sweet (expect stevia – which is an herb). You’re an intelligent person – you know where sugar is!!! Breads, pasta, juice, pop, alcohol, pastries, muffins, packaged & prepared foods, oatmeal, chips, potatoes, some fruits and veggies, condiments and on & on (just in case I left any out).
Your morning starts out with cereal (sugar) or toast/bread (sugar) with jam (sugar) or perhaps you have a fruit smoothie (sugar) or yogurt (sugar- except if it in plain), or maybe some oatmeal (sugar).
Then for lunch or dinner, you have a sandwich/sub (bread = sugar), or French fries (sugar) and a burger (bun & condiments = sugar), spaghetti (sugar), or include side dishes like corn (sugar), mashed potatoes (sugar), carrots (sugar – ok, not so bad because they include fibre). Perhaps you have a salad with dressing (check for sugar (hidden also in vinegars (except ACV)) or a piece of fruit (sugar – unless low sugar fruit like berries or granny smith apple) etc.
For snacks you may have popcorn (sugar and GMO – if not organic), chips/tortilla chips (sugar), fruit (only should have 2 servings per day), chocolate bars (sugar), ice cream (sugar) etc.
To quench your thirst – any latte from a coffee shop (sugar), juice (sugar), even the Naked Juices or Odwalla (sugar – sure a little step up but still sugar), alcohol (sugar), tea or coffee (sugar unless you drink black), etc.
You get the idea. So what Can I Eat and How Can I get off Sugar.
Vegetables. We are so deprived of Green Veggies. BORING.
Maybe, but they are KICK ASS healthy and you will be reaping the benefits for years!!! I never craved veggies and now I do. I can feel them feeding my cells and they provide me with sooooo much energy! Also, balance your plate with the proper ratio of healthy fats and protein.
Here’s the thing…when you feed your cells nutrient dense food, you will stop craving sugar. Your cells are SCREAMING for proper nutrition but we keep feeding them CRAP…they are crying out for care. Please feed them Greens
If you aren’t getting your 7-13 servings of fruits and vegetables a day from a variety of sources, then you can do what I did and bridge the gap. I started taking WHOLE FOOD to feed my cells and this has drastically cut my sugar cravings. You can read about Juice Plus here . But simply put it’s like eating the cleanest, purest real raw food that is chemical free, non-gmo and actaully feeding my cells exactly what they need to thrive. And Kid’s get if free!!
Get mentally prepared. Learn to be in the PRESENT moment and BREATH.
Notice when you are craving sugar (time of day, triggered by certain events, habit – when you come home from work/school). Awareness is KEY to waking up and consciously noticing your habits.
Formulate a PLAN. What will you do when a sugar craving hits?
What low sugar options can you eat for breakfast? Lunch/Dinner? And Snacks? Liquids?

Understand Die-Off… click here for more information regarding supplements that will help you. When I first started coming off sugar no one explained die-off to me and it was horrendous. I ended up eating way more sugar because I wasn’t told about what supplements would help me. I don’t want that to happen to you. Understanding what can happen in your body gives you a heads up! I was all alone and it took me another year before I was ready to try again (I had so much fear attached to how I felt the first time…trust me, it’s ok to get help)
Your body may start YELLING at you! You are taking away food that is feeding the nasties in your body. Pick up these supplements to help with the die-off. Also pick up your pen and journal your emotions….it could be quite a ride. Everyone is different but it’s always good to know of any bumps you may encounter on your journey and to be prepared.
DIE OFF: As the bacteria and yeast are dying off, this will cause cravings to get even more intense. You may experience flu-like symptoms, acne, skin rashes, vaginal itching, headaches, depression or anxiety, lethargy, insomnia (sounds like fun, huh!! But knowing these symptoms will let you know that your body is healing at a deeper level). Essentially your immune system will be kicking up an inflammatory storm as toxins move through and out of your body.
