Years ago, I put whatever on my body, never giving it a second thought, EVER.
But then, one day, things changed.
I started to read labels.
I started to learn that what you put on your skin gets absorbed into your bloodstream.
I learned that toxins get encapsulated by fat cells to protect our organs.
Could my skin and hair care products be making me fat?
Okay, I’m sure you can figure out that I’m going to ask you to have a little peeksy at the list of ingredients….so go ahead and check them out and then do what you need to do.
In keeping with tradition, I buy my shampoo and conditioner from Living Libations and I probably only wash my hair every other week (when I’m in the shower my hair gets wet, obviously, but I just scrub my scalp without shampoo).
When I decided to forgo the “normal” shampoos/conditioners (I didn’t use any for 3 months)
My hair was REBELLING…
It was greasy (see why this happens below), but that didn’t last long and now I have, what my hair dresser says, “full, shiny, beautiful hair”
Attached to your hair follicles are sebaceous glands that secrete sebum into your follicles, waterproofing your skin. Without sebum your skin becomes dry & cracked. Shampoos strip your hair of sebum, drying it out. When you stop using shampoo, you can keep your hair clean by washing it in water and brushing it a lot when it is dry. Brushing makes the oils move down the length on your hair. At first, your hair will be extremely greasy because it is making extra oil but after a while it will be gorgeous!!! If you have greasy hair, you can improve it by washing it less often. Constant washing only exacerbates the problems by stimulating the sebaceous glands to overproduce…see the vicious cycle.
What else have I done to have an abundance of healthy hair?
Well, I started to nourish my cells properly.
You see, hair is not important to your survival, so when our hair is limp, breaking, not looking so good, that’s a sign that our cells need some loving. More on this later but here’s a sneak peek. But for now, this is how I feed my cells and my hair, nails and skin are thanking me!
Now, because I don’t shampoo that often, one bottle of shampoo & conditioner from Living Libations will last me about 6 months or longer!
