Revive your Resolutions….act like its January 1st again.

I’m not one for making New Year’s Resolutions but I do like to keep improving my habits. Since our habits reflect what we do in a day….remember we are all just habits strung together. I want to make sure my habits are in line with my goals of living a healthy life, being strong & independent, keeping my mind sharp, having fun, and being calm and centered.

We get caught up in dates (like January 1st) sometimes and we go full throttle and make too many changes, too quickly. Unfortunately, we also have an “all or nothing” attitude, so after we have exhausted our will power trying to maintain all of the things we want to do, we tend to let things fall by the wayside. Typically, we are in the same routine by about mid-February. So now, it’s mid-March, who says you can’t start today?

January happens to be in the winter…it’s cold, dark and a time for hibernation…so could this be a reason our resolutions are broken so quickly? Spring is a time for renewal, it’s when we take our stored energy from the winter and burst forth…the days are longer, the sun is brighter, the birds are chirping and we have more energy!!! Tune into this energy and the stored energy that you have and use it to your advantage.

I have many clients that ask me, “Does it really make a difference if I come to class only once or twice a week? I feel like if I don’t come all the time there’s no point?” My answer is to start small, attend one class, get in the groove, make your goal attainable and celebrate your success. You will find that other changes begin to happen (remember precession), and my clients have proven this. For example, they tell me that they eat healthier for a few days after working out – BONUS. They have more energy, sleep better and have more patience – WOW.

One of my goals was to incorporate more meditation into my day (this keeps me healthy, calm and centered). It certainly has not been perfect but I will share the steps that I have taken.

  1. I realized that my meditation will NOT be sitting down with my eyes closed for 30 minutes at this time in my life and I made peace with that. I decided to be in the present moment and more mindful as often as I can (adding present moment awareness to all of my daily tasks).
  2. I read The Tapping Solution which has been sitting on my shelf for 2 years. At times I have tapped but not consistently so I’m exploring how I’d like to make this a habit.
  3. I signed up for Deepak’s and Oprah’s 21 day meditation which starts March 16th – I find this really helpful and have thoroughly enjoyed partaking in this over the years.
  4. I put reminders on my phone to be present, I print off sayings that I put above my desk to inspire me to be calm & healthy.

None of these seem too difficult, but it takes time to integrate them into my life and to become habits. I keep my changes as small as possible and celebrate my successes.

Here are some articles that will take moments to read but could have a long lasting impact on the days ahead of you…enjoy and remember that every moment is a new start.
