skinny choc shakeSkinny Chocolate Shake

So we are the typical family that loves a good burger, fries and milkshake.

And this is a super fun family meal to make together.

When I can, I love to upgrade our meals to be just a bit healthier. Such as buying grass fed beef, or local. Making our own fries from local potatoes and using coconut oil in the oven.

And lastly adding a yummy milkshake to wash it all down!

My kids love this. It’s a great step up from having a traditional milkshake. This one is loaded with nutritional goodness and you can add more ice and less liquid to make it thicker. Continue reading »

Various raw treats3 Ingredient Chocolate Turtles by Leanne Vogel

Recipe type: Vegan, Gluten-free, Dairy-free, Yeast-free, Corn-free, Grain-free

Serves: 12

This no bake recipe is super simple and super delicious. For step by step photos, please click on her link below.

  • 6 medjool dates, cut in half lengthwise with pit removed
  • ¾ cup dairy-free chocolate chips, melted
  • 48 raw pecan halves

Instructions

  1. Cut medjool dates in half lengthwise and remove pits.
  2. Shape each piece into a circle with your fingers. The dates should be squishy enough that this will be really, really easy to do.
  3. Lay the date circles on a parchment paper lined baking sheet, sticky side up.
  4. Press 4 pecan halves into the center of the date circles, fanning them out to look like a flower.
  5. Melt chocolate chips in a double boiler or saucepan with a bowl over top.
  6. Spoon ½ teaspoon of melted chocolate into the middle of the fan of pecans. Flip the turtle over and press down gently so that the chocolate touches the parchment paper.
  7. Repeat with remaining date circles and place in the freezer for 5 minutes to harden. You can keep the chocolate warm my placing back in the hot water bath.
  8. Drop each turtle into the melted chocolate and move around until it’s back is covered. Remove from the bowl and place back on baking sheet. Repeat with remaining and let cool in the freezer for 10 minutes for the chocolate to harden.

Thin is in, but FAT is where it’s at…getting healthy fats into your diet will:

cause your blood sugars to stay stable (the hormone glucagon is secreted) and your body enters FAT BURNING mode. The hormone glucagon moves fat from storage and therefore will be used as energy thus shrinking your fat cells. Fat from storage=burned fat=weight loss/stability.

Various raw treatsRaw Chocolate Macaroons

I love coconut and one day I had a craving for chocolate macaroons but wanted a healthier version. These treats are so delicious, simple to make and nutritious. This client gift box is packed with raw goodness (cosmic fudge, raspberry filled chocolates, coconut filled chocolates, haystacks, hazelnut balls)

2/3 cups raw cacao powder

½ cup pure maple syrup

¼ cup coconut oil (if not in liquid state heat slightly)

1 tsp organic vanilla

2 cups shredded organic coconut

2 tbsps. hemp hearts (optional)

2-4 tbsps. organic cranberries chopped into tiny pieces (optional)

2 tbsps. of your favorite nut chopped into tiny pieces (optional)

Mix cacao powder, maple syrup, oil, vanilla together until smooth. When blended add in coconut and any or all of the optional ingredients (I love the hemp and cranberry combo).Using a small spoon or melon scoop form 12-18 macaroons and place on parchment paper in a freezer safe container. Freeze until firm and can be stored for up to 30 days in fridge or freezer if they last that long!

5 of my Favourite Treats to make at Christmas

Move over butter, white flour and white sugar…..these still sweet and deliciously satisfying

treats have a place on your counter this Christmas.

image001Last year at Move Your Body Studio, I offered

up these tasty treats after classes and they were gobbled up with requests for seconds!

You can bet that I will be making them again and pleasing my participants!

I also love putting them in pretty jars and handing them out as gifts.

Not only are these goodies super yummy but they freeze really well so you can

make a lot at once and then have some time to chill during the holidays.

Enjoy as you put some bliss in your balls this Christmas

and make treats that are on your “nice” not “naughty” list.

I’d love to hear what treats you are making during the holidays.

Thirsty Thursday – Get your Vitamin C Booster Smoothie

Does this ever happen to you…. I sat down to type this blog and then I got sidetracked!!!

How did I get side tracked? My “busy mama” day unfolded like this….From clients, to classes, to tapping sessions, to picking up dog food, getting mail, going to the bank, making meatballs, getting dinner ready, looking at the empty granola jar knowing that I need to make more, to trying this smoothie so that I could taste test it first before I posted it – and it’s a good one, to dog walking, picking up a kid and going to the dentist, then hockey….and now…a week later….sitting here preparing this blog so that you can enjoy this fabulous smoothie packed with a punch of Goodness and loaded with Vitamin C. Valentine’s Day is approaching quickly and you may be hearing chocolate calling your name.

I love chocolate and I eat it every day.  Years ago it was Snickers, Skor, and too many to mention! Plus lots of homemade baking with butter, sugar and flour. But I had to change…years of eating like this was affecting my moods, my hormones, my teeth, my waistline and more.

I started experimenting by making tasty treats with raw chocolate and coconut oil. I have used many recipes from various sites and also created some of my own.

So as this Valentine’s rolls around (and then Easter, and then someone’s birthday and of course, the Halloween candy will be lining the aisles soon enough)…try these creations. I promise you will change your taste buds and they will be wanting these treats and not the unhealthy ones!
