I discuss the four top reasons in my newest post.  And none of them are related to food or exercise. Continue reading »

Why Your Waist Circumference Matters 100x More Than What You Weigh

It can be too easy to think (or worry) about your weight.

But you know what?  There is something else that may be more important when it comes to real health.  That is your waist circumference.

Ahh, just a minute!  It’s not just about the “pinchable” fat under the skin (you know, that “muffin top”), it’s about the internal fat around your abdominal organs that can be the real issue.

That internal fat (AKA “visceral fat”) is known to release a bunch of hormones and inflammatory compounds that can mess with your blood sugar, blood fats (i.e triglycerides), and blood pressure.

In today’s post I’ll describe how to measure your waist circumference and then give you a bunch of actionable tips to help you reduce it.  And (of course) there’s a super-nutritious recipe at the end. Continue reading »

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.” – Mark Twain

Typically when we get stressed the wheels start spinning and life can feel like it’s whirling at top speed.  We tend to feel like a Jack Russell ripping around a room, rushing at the problem.  What if we took a deep breath and approached the situation carefully like a St. Bernard? Or perhaps you do already…

“The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.” – Abraham Lincoln

New Year Detox Part Two – Drinking, Stress, Shut Eye and Supplements

It’s a new year and for many that means a renewed focus and interest in self-improvement, including detoxing from the recent holidays.  While wanting to be in good health year round is your priority…we all need a reminder and a tune up from time to time and the New Year is a great reminder to detox our cells and improve our health…because as you know – without good health, we are nothing.

new year_Healthy

So, all year long, we move our bodies at Move Your Body Studio in Bobcaygeon and 3 times per year, the Busy Mama Detox, which is an online detox program available world-wide is offered.  This 12 week program breaks down your day into small parts and offers you strategies to detox that little area…until your whole day is cleaned up.  Small changes…BIG rewards. Check out www.busymamadetox.com for more info!!

Here are a few more strategies for your short and long term health…

water_glassHydration — Plain and simple, we need water!!! Start your day with a big glass of water and follow it up with a detox lemonade (water and lemon)

Many minor maladies such as headaches, fatigue, muscle cramps and even depression can be related to your hydration levels.  WOW – water is powerful!!

Keep your body hydrated with green  and herbal teas, water, coconut water but leave the nasties out of your body like alcohol, caffeine, sodas, store bought juices…you don’t need your cells floating around in artificial colours, flavours, preservatives…keep your choices CLEAN.

Stress – Breath, chill, take a moment, be in the moment, relax, step back & laugh. Stress can cause a buildup of toxins in your body which can be very dangerous. Even minor daily activities like commuting, finances and relationships cause us stress.  Seek out ways to reduce stress in your life and take counter measures to reduce them.

Sleep – Yup, you’ve got to get it.  Your body heals, your brain detoxes and you awake renewed and replenished.  The Busy Mama Detox offers many suggestions that can help you improve this important area of your life.

Supplements – I was never a big fan of supplements but I do believe they have a place in our modern day diet now.  Consuming a healthy diet may feel like a full time job and the food industry does not help us with all their inventions, so our cells need HELP.

It can be challenging to come by all the necessary nutrients, vitamins and minerals our bodies require, and supplements are a great way to do just that — supplement our intake.

Here are some supplements that are discussed in the Busy Mama Detox.  You are to use what you feel is necessary for this time of your life.

These will ensure that you are killing off parasites, yeast & pathogens.

ü  Body brush (I use dry brushes from Living Libations which I highly recommend and the Lymph+Tonic lymphatic drops)

ü  Probiotics – great for the bowel & intestinal flora

ü  Oil of oregano – antimicrobial

ü  Fenugreek Seed Capsules – mucus dissolver and fat dissolver

ü  Colloidal Silver – anti-fungal/bacterial

ü  Candex – anti-fungal enzyme blend

ü  Scram by HealthForce Nutritionals  – anti-parasitic

ü  Pau d’Arco tea – anti-fungal

ü  Grapefruit Seed Extract – antimicrobial & anti-pathogenic

ü  Aloe – great for the bowel

ü  Tryphala – Ayurvedic product that strengthens and supports bowel

ü  Chlorophyll –synthesized sunlight

ü  Cell Food – liquid oxygen

ü  CoQ10 & Resveratrol – increase the oxygenation in the cells

how to develop patienceWe can always use reminders in our day to keep us grounded!  I often will take photos of quotes or photos to inspire me and keep me on track. I printed this out and  taped it on the wall in my kitchen! AHHHHH……

Remember to have patience with yourself in this journey of life. We often want too much too quickly in this INSTANT world and it’s causing a lot of stress related health problems. We can’t see STRESS and most of us have built up a resistance to it and don’t even know what it would be like without it. So, instead of flying off the handle or eating your stress, slow down just a little to start and take a deep breath…………..ahhhh!

What do you do when you get stressed and need a moment?

Here’s to having more patience in your day,

Tanya
